Excellence is worth celebrating!
Excellence is one of four values HWDSB has embedded in its Strategic Directions – these include Respect, Creativity, Excellence and Citizenship. HWDSB launched the Profiling Excellence recognition initiative in 2005, and it now celebrates outstanding achievement in four areas:
Profiling Excellence - Program - Top
In 2005 The Profiling Excellence Committee was formed with the goal of recognizing excellence in our District. Members of the Committee are committed to developing a framework to recognize excellence within the HWDSB in a consistent manner. These awards are given to schools, Board departments, school divisions/departments, and specific programs in a department or school. Awards for any given academic year will be selected and celebrated in the fall of the subsequent year. Co-chairs of Profiling Excellence – Program are Corie Pillinini and Brian Playfair.

Profiling Excellence - Volunteer - Top
HWDSB is committed to celebrating the excellence of one of its greatest assets – its volunteers. Do you know of an individual or group that has been making a difference in the Hamilton-Wentworth District School Board community? The Profiling Volunteer Excellence Committee is a subcommittee of our Parent Involvement Committee.
Each year, recipients are recognized in three categories:
- Years of Service - to recognize continuing volunteer service
- Individual Excellence - to recognize individuals who share their special skills and who are positive members of a school community
- Group Program / Initiative - to recognize a program or project that has greatly impacted the school community or students
Application packages are available in school offices and on the Board website (below). Packages for recognition in all three categories may be completed online or on paper. Applications can be submitted by Board staff, parents/guardians, volunteers or community members.

Please note:
- all volunteer with ten years of service, and more than ten years of service, will be invited to attend the Profiling Volunteer Excellence celebration
- volunteers reaching the following milestones of service will be invited to attend the Profiling Volunteer Excellence celebration (3, 5, 7, 9, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35)

- recipients of the Individual Profiling Volunteer Excellence award will be contacted directly and invited to attend the event

- recipients of the Groups Profiling Volunteer Excellence award will be contacted directly and invited to attend the event
Profiling Excellence - Individual - Top
This program profiles individual staff or students who have been recognized for their accomplishments and contributions outside of the HWDSB. Individuals are recognized at monthly Board Meetings. As this is an ongoing recognition program, applications will be accepted throughout the year, from August to May. Applications are to be forwarded to Sue Phillips (sue.phillips@hwdsb.on.ca) in the Director’s Office.

HWDSB is fortunate to have so many HWDSB staff members who support extra-curricular activities that enhance our students' educational experience. Staff can self-nominate for this recognition of their contributions.
