It's almost time for the much-anticipated 43rd annual HWDSB Checker Tournament, which will take over the Ancaster Fairgrounds place on Wednesday, March 7.
Schools will be entering teams from grades 3 to 8, in newly organized divisions introducing the "E" Division for Grade 3 students.

Dundas Central Public School is having its playground redesigned into a state of the art natural playground for September 2012, through the work of Adam Bienenstock and his company Bienenstock Natural Playgrounds.
The playground is being rebuilt through funding from the community and at no cost to Hamilton-Wentworth District School Board (HWDSB).

The gym at Allan A. Greenleaf elementary was full of dozens of mathletes – and not just athletes – on a recent afternoon as the Waterdown school celebrated its impressive results in the Maple Leaf Challenge presented by Mathletics.
In the online math contest run Nov. 7-8, 2011 by the Australian curriculum support firm, there were 14,599 Canadian students from 614 schools who speedily answered as many grade-appropriate math questions as possible over two days. Somewhere between being an “eco-ninja,” the fastest man in Ancaster and playing Danny Zuko in Ancaster High’s production of Greece, Derek Hambly found time to coach or compete on seven different school sports teams.
And, on Monday night, the Grade 12 Ancaster High School student was honoured for it, when he won the Jeff Dickins Memorial Award at the B’nai Brith sports celebrity dinner.

For Mackenzie Meyer, heading to biotech class used to mean grabbing a pair of heavy textbooks, an oversized binder and a bundle of other school supplies.
But this year, the Grade 12 student has lightened her load through a unique pilot program aimed at bringing technology into the classroom.
